The Big 3-0!

Today is my 30th birthday.......Looking back on past birthdays, I couldn't wait to turn another year older. When I was 15, I couldn't wait to turn 16 so that I could get my driver's license. When I was 17, the day couldn't come soon enough that I was a legal adult. At 20, I planned a huge birthday party for the big 2-1!!! Now that I am officially out of my 20's, I wish more then anything I could stop time and go back a year or two....or three. Tomorrow, I am off to a secret get away that the hubby has planned for me. Stay tuned for an update in a few days about where he has taken me as well as a ton of pictures from our recent trip to Maui. I promise to stop neglecting this blog and start posting more often! Life goes by way too fast and I need to document as much as I can!

Have you ever seen this lady on the food network? At first I thought I was watching a female version of Guy Fieri (must have been the hair). Anyways, she sucked me in with her enthusiasm and love for food. She is eccentric, loud, animated and completely entertaining. Her vision is making high-end restaurant quality food......in any average persons kitchen and budget. Hence her catch phrase "You don't have to be a restaurant chef to cook like one". Love it!! She actually made me excited to get in my kitchen and make some grub!!!! I tried out this recipe.........and holy cow!!! It was delicious! Packed full of flavor and super easy!

Pork Chops with Apples and Onions
Recipe courtesy Anne Burrell
Prep Time: 10 min Inactive Prep Time: 10 min Cook Time: 45 min
Level: Easy Serves: 2 servings
Ingredients
4 bone-in pork loin chops, 1- inch thick
Kosher salt
Extra-virgin olive oil
2 onions, thinly sliced
1 pinch crushed red pepper
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
Pinch cinnamon
2 sprigs fresh rosemary, leaves finely chopped
2 cups apple cider

Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Season the pork chops generously with salt. Coat a large saute pan with olive oil and bring it to a high heat. Sear the pork on both sides and on the fat edge, working in batches if the chops don't all fit in the pan at the same time. Be sure not to crowd the pan. Remove the pork from the pan and place on a cookie sheet. Finish the pork in the oven for about 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Ditch the excess fat from the saute pan. Give a drizzle of fresh olive oil and add the onions and crushed red pepper and season with salt. Cook until the onions become soft and aromatic. Add the apples, cinnamon and rosemary and toss to coat with the oil. Add the cider and cook until the cider has reduced by two-thirds and the onion-apple mixture is very soft and saucy. Serve over the pork chops.

Jeremy said it was one of his favorite things I have ever made. The only changes to her recipe is that I used boneless pork chops and I used "sparkling" apple cider because I already had that at home.

how I love thee.

In the five years we have lived in the desert, this has definitely been the most cold and rainy. When we lived in Orange County I would dread the wet winters. Having to battle so cal traffic on top of drenched roadways, was not my cup of tea. But now, having to live in 6 months a year of scorching heat, I truly appreciate mother nature's gift of winter! The dark, thunderous clouds, blustery winds, and downpour of water are part of a season I gladly welcome!

It won't be long before it is so hot, that ice cream melts on the way home from the grocery store. You cannot relax outside, unless you are floating in a pool. That refreshing pool then turns into bath water by the middle of August. To make the summer even more awesom, our normal $60 electric bill becomes $275. (Can you hear the sarcasm in my voice?) I cringe just thinking of this season approaching. (The day Jeremy and I moved into our house, it was 126 degrees. Yes, it was miserable. Just another little fun fact.)

So until then, I will enjoy every minute of snuggling in layers, turning on the fireplace, and wearing my ugg boots! Please summer....don't come too soon!

Boomer cannot get enough of being in the water. The other day we took him to our friend's pool and he swam for about 2 hours. He was diving off of the waterfall from the jacuzzi into the pool. It was hilarious. And he slept for almost 24 hours straight after all the fun!

I found these shoes under our guest bed. We always have friends and family staying with us...so I had a list of about 20 different people they could belong too. My very good friend Kari Hoyt, claimed the super cute black wedge (if only she had left the other one, then I could have worn them a time or two before returning them to her! I'm a sucker for some sexy heels.) But the New Balance tennis shoes still have not been claimed! We have no clue who they belong too. And who knows how long they have been under there. (By the way, they are a size 12, Jeremy's perfect fit.) I guess its a sign that I need to check under that bed after our guests leave....we could score ourselves some really cool stuff!! Anyways, if these belong to you....let me know......otherwise Finders Keepers!!!

Updates in the Frey Household

Jeremy is about to start his Home Makeover Project for 2009. It was such a success last year for the City of Indio and the JW Marriott, that they have chosen another family in need to help make their dreams come true. You can read about it here and here.
Jer is also taking night classes on top of his heavy work load! I'm so proud of him! He inspires me everyday!

I am busy studying for the California Department of Insurance Licensing Exam. I hope to take the test in the next month and finally have it done! It seems all so overwhelming, but I know once I go and take it, I will be happy to have it complete. Wish me luck! I've also been trying out some new recipes.....we had my famous Chicken in Wine Sauce and this tonight and it was delish!!
As for the dogs....Boomer and Brady are hilarious as usual. They are loving that the weather out here in the desert is cooling down and can play all day in the back yard. The cooler weather also means we get to go on long walks again which is great for all four of us. The boys are such sweet dogs but, still don't quite get the concept that they are not allowed on our new couch. We leave the family room for one second and this is what we come back to find:

We just returned about a week ago from my best friend's wedding in Cabo San Lucas. It was such a beautiful and emotional moment for everyone there. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. A storm chose to hit the one and only day we prayed it wouldn't......but that could not stop this wedding from taking place. A change in location was put together by the wedding coordinater and we were on our way to send Angela down that aisle to say her "I Do's" to Travis. Congratulations to the newlyweds! We love you both soooo much!!! We are so honored to have been a part of your special day in paradise!

(This again is another late post.) This past October, my best friend Angela Thoreson got engaged to the love of her life, Travis Rich. We are so happy for the both of them! Angela and I have been friends since we were toddlers. Our houses were across the street from each other in our neighborhood in Yorba Linda. We were convinced that we were somehow related because her brother and my Dad had the same birthday. Her parents anniversary and my birthday was the same as well. In our 8 year old minds that meant we were genetically connected. We spent every waking hour together playing barbies, having sleepovers, and making up a "fantasy club" in the gully behind her house (where we weren't supposed to be hanging out). Right before 6th grade, Angela's parents moved their family to Rockwall, TX. And although we were only 11 years old....I remember being so devastated that my best friend was moving away and not knowing if I would ever see her again (back then we didn't have Internet or email.....this really makes me feel old). Angela and I kept in touch as pen pals, sending letters and school photos to each other over the years. She would come back to California during the summers to visit her grandparents and I would always get a few days in to visit as well. The first time I went to Texas was right after our high school graduation. We thought that we were rebels and decided to go get our belly buttons pierced. Angela almost fainted and I thought I was going to as well. Being the goody-two-shoes that we were.....we confessed to her mom that night what we had done and I called my Dad from the airport to let him know as well. Angela came to California when I was first going through cosmetology school and let me dye her hair blonde.....it took me almost 3 hours and she was so patient! I traveled to Austin, TX for her college graduation and she stood by my side as I said my vows to Jeremy three years ago.
I am so blessed and honored to stand by her side as she says "I Do" to Travis on October 3rd in Cabo San Lucas.
Congratulations again you two!!! We love you guys and can't wait for the wedding!!!

FRUYU

Jer and I took a drive to a new frozen yogurt store in La Quinta called Fruyu. And boy howdy was it delicious!!! It's a "serve yourself" kind of place with about 10 flavors to choose from and toppings galore. Jeremy opted out of splurging on this sweet treat....but after I told him they have chocolate & peanut butter, I think he wish he would have. I had the Original Tart & Raspberry Tart with granola and mixed berries. My Dad, Sister and I have an addiction to ice cream and frozen yogurt. We can't help it...its just in our genes. But this has to be one of the best I have ever had....no joke. So Dad and Lindsay...if you are reading this...get your butts out here to the desert so I can take you!!!

Sarah's 21st Birthday in Las Vegas

This is way overdue.....but we attended the StageCoach Festival the last weekend in April. Talk about an All-Star, Jam Packed Country Line Up! The days were hot and we were sweating........and some how the nights were horribly cold! But it was well worth being able to see some of our favorite country music artists. My favorite: Its a tie between Darius Rucker and Brad Paisley.......Jeremy's favorite: Kid Rock and Kenny Chesney. We can't wait for next year!

I promised myself I wouldn't jump on the band wagon or get sucked into the series......but I am officially obsessed! (Thanks Linds for letting me borrow your books!) I can't put them down. I finished the third one, "Eclipse" in two days. This weekend Jeremy is going to the river with my Dad and Uncle.....which means I have the whole weekend to finish Breaking Dawn as well as read the unfinished draft of Midnight Sun which you can find on Stephenie Meyer's website here. And although, I was a little disappointed with the Twilight Movie.....Jeremy loved it!!! I thought he would have no interest in a vampire love story, but he thought it was "cool" and hopes there are more "vampire fighting scenes" in New Moon. I even suggested that we name our first child either Edward or Bella.......hey, I figured there might be a chance.

Wagner Wedding

Back on March 28th, two friends from highschool, Grant Wagner & Brooke Payne, TIED THE KNOT! What an incredible wedding! It was held at the South Coast Winery in Temecula, CA. Jeremy and I took the opportunity to celebrate our anniversary a few weekends early and stay in one of the villas on the property. Which was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! All of the villas have fireplaces, super soft beds, jacuzzi tubs and patios which over look the vineyards. Jeremy and I sat on the patio, had a couple of glasses of wine, listened to Jack Johnson and enjoyed the view. It was heaven!!!
I was also in charge of doing all the lovely hair do's for Brooke, her bridesmaids and the mom's. I was pretty busy all day Saturday, while Jeremy hung out with Grant and the other groomsmen at the pool. (If you want to see some pics of the pretty hair do's, please scroll to the bottom of this post). Anywho - the wedding was so beautiful and so fun! Jer and I haven't danced that much since probably our own wedding. The wedding also gave us the opportunity to catch up with so many friends from high school that I haven't seen in almost 10 years.
Congrats Grant & Brooke!! We love you guys and wish you a lifetime of happiness !!!

We have a new addition to our extended family. Grandpa Freddy has adopted a 10 year old golden retriever named Gabby. Her previous owner has had her since birth, but had to find a new home for her due to a moving situation. I just can't imagine having to give up a pet that you have had almost their whole life! Luckily Grandpa Freddy wanted an older dog and it was a perfect match! She follows him everywhere and they bonded so quickly. I can't wait for her to meet Boomer and Brady! I am in love with the her white face that always occurs with older goldens.

I am so passionate and really believe in adoption for pets of all ages. Especially in today's economy, there are so many animals that are left behind because their families can no longer afford to take care of them. Adopting Brady, was probably one of the most rewarding moments that Jer and I have had together. I know he had a terrible life before he came to us, but being able to give him that second chance is so fufilling. I am so happy Grandpa Freddy is also able to feel this joy and unconditional love. Sorry this is a little late......but I wanted to wish my cousin Sarah a very happy birthday!!! We are going to Las Vegas this weekend with the whole family to celebrate her turning the big 2-1! I am so behind and I have so much to post about....but for now here is an update from this past weekend. Jeremy's brother Trevor, his girlfriend Taryn and cousin Chris came out to the desert this weekend to celebrate Trevor's birthday. It was a weekend filled with golf, "skinny" margaritas, good food and lots of laughs. Although we didn't capture any moments of all of us together, we were able to catch a few shots of all the "kids". Trevor & Taryn have a 10 month old French Bulldog named Butters. She is the sweetest little thing and has the most hilarious personality. She loved to beat up Boomer and Brady....and the boys were exhausted!! The three of them loved chasing each other in our newly finished backyard. Jeremy named them "The Killer B's".......... (Boomer, Brady & Butters). It was an entertaining weekend to say the least.

I saw this story on the news this morning. (I blubbered like a baby while cuddling Brady at the foot of our bed.) What a wonderful human being this woman is. She is so forgiving and seeing the best in people even when something bad has happened to her. A true example of courage and optimism. Fires

I am at a lost for words. Our hometown of Yorba Linda, battled 3 horrific fires this weekend. Almost all of our friends and family were evacuated. Some had time to collect their belongings....while others had to leave with only the clothes on their backs. It has been devastating. Yorba Linda is a small community, and I feel so helpless being two hours away from the town where I have so many wonderful memories and so many loved ones.

Although the majority of our family and friends have returned home safely, there are the many unfortunate that have returned to total devastation. They are in our prayers and will continue to be as they try to re-build and start over. Thank you to all of the firefighters for their hard work and dedication to saving our city.

And the best part....the 2 day ticket has been lowered to $99! Last year it was almost $250 and we opted not to go. But this year we are totally in! Who's coming with me?????

is the greatest! They opened one of these markets by our house in Indio a few months ago and we absolutely love it!! The fresh, organic produce and other products are fantastic! They make it so easy, (hence the name) to eat healthy food without preservatives, pesticides, hormones, etc. The prices are cheaper then Trader Joes & Henry's too. We really love the 100% whole wheat pizza dough, homemade soups, large variety of veggies/ herbs and of course the desserts.

My mom, sister and I left on a road trip to San Luis Obispo this past weekend. My sister is relocating to there so our mission was to find an apartment, local farmers market/grocery store, a vet for little Mia, a fitness center, and a frozen yogurt place. It was an adventure to say the least. Here are a few pics from it all:

This is Jeremy's new favorite word. He says it all the time. He even makes the same expression every time he says it.....a smirk showing his dimples, squinting his eyes and crunching his eyebrows together.

"Jer, can you please feed the dogs."
"Absolutely."

"Are you ready to drive to mom's?"
"Absolutely."

"Thanks for cleaning out the garage."
"Absolutely."

Even in a text I sent him this morning..

"How is golf? Are you having fun?"
"Absolutely."

He is on a roll with this word. I need to ask him this.....

"Babe can I get another puppy?"

Hopefully the "Absolutely" trend will fit right into answering that question.

Delicious Halibut = Smelly House

Tonight I grilled some amazing halibut on the stove. And although my dinner was yummy, it left a nasty smell lingering in the house. Seeing as how we are still having 110 degree weather out here in the desert, I couldn't just open our windows and let it air out. So began the search online.....and this is what I found. It totally worked!! I brought a pot of water to a boil and added the juice of three lemons plus the rinds. I then added a few dashes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Then continued to let it boil for 30 minutes and let it sit on the stove for another 30 min. after that. My house smells fresh and clean with a hint of baking cookies (must be from the cinnamon & nutmeg). Brilliant and so "green" not having to use air fresheners that not only pollute our air but irritate my allergies.

THE MAN, Mr. David Cook, has released the first single off his new record due out November 18th. I am sooooooo excited!! As a devoted "Cookie" fan, (I know some of you are laughing at me) I LOVE David's new song. Even Jeremy, who is normally pretty picky when it comes to music, said "That's a great song!". I am not too sure about the "manliner" in the pic, but I do know I can't wait to hear the entire album.

I am posting this straight from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I am in the lobby of our hotel with a bagel and some OJ!!! Yesterday we flew into Denver to surprise Jeremy's best friend and college roommate, Matt Franz for his birthday. Heather, (Matt's Wife) has had this party in the works for several months now. It was a great celebration for Matt's 30th!!! He was shocked!! And even more shocked to see Jeremy and I standing in the back of the room! Of course I forgot my camera last night....so I will have to post more pics when I get some from the Franz family. Jeremy is out golfing today with all the boys and I am going to visit with our friend's, Jason, Lisa & Braylon Maxfield in Parker. Then we fly home tomorrow afternoon. I wish we had longer. It is so beautiful here and Jeremy is so happy to be back with his buddies.......more posts to come.....but for now here is one of my favorite pics from our wedding of Jeremy and Matt.

A few posts back, I had mentioned that Brady, (our sweet little rescue dog), has had some issues with eating soil out of my potted elephant ear plant. Since the major destruction day, we have not caught Brady in the act, but we still find the soil disappearing from the pot and then we end up finding it in little piles all over the house. Well look what we found today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like big brother Boomer has been doing the dirty work and Brady has been getting blamed for it!!!

I normally don't post on such a girly thing..........but this is seriously some amazing mascara. I have to admit that I love my good ol' Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara that I have used since highschool. I've tried many other products, but was yet to find something that worked as good on my lashes, both cheap and expensive. That was until now. My cousin Sarah introduced me to a makeup line called Benefit. And although its a hefty $19.00 a tube...it is really, really, really, really worth it. You can get it here.

Today was absolute heaven. My mom and I took a little road trip to Glen Ivy Hot Springs Day Spa. My mother in law, Karen, also joined us. Karen had never been to a day spa, and I believe this is one of the most unique ones that she could experience. It was so nice to just float in the pools, surrounded by a tropical oasis, go in the mud pits, steam rooms and the indoor roman bath tubs. The weather was sunny and gorgeous. It was a nice escape from the 110 degree heat we are still experiencing out here in the desert. I forgot my camera in the locker, so unfortunately I was unable to capture the day in photos. I even ran into some of my old co-workers from Alexander's Grand Salon & Spa as well as some girls I went to high school with. It was a perfect day and we can't wait to go back.

My hubby was in the Desert Sun Newspaper today regarding a project he is working on with the City of Indio and the Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort and Spa. Check it out here.
He is also going to be interviwed next week on a local radio station 100.5 regarding the home makeovers!!! I am going to record it and then attempt to somehow post it.

I am so proud of all his hard work and efforts in helping the less fortunate in our community.

Dinner was a success!(If you are not sure what I am talking about, please refer to my previous blog.) It was easy to make and super delicious! Jeremy even helped wrap the chicken sausage around the bocconcini (bite size fresh mozzarella). The only thing that I did different then the recipe called for, is that I steamed the broccoli.....oh yeah and I used broccoli instead of broccolini.

The sauce looks a little scary in this picture, but believe me it was the best tomato-basil sauce I have ever had!!!!!!! You can even see a bit of the chese melting out!!

(I do need to work on the presentation of plating my food if I am going to be on Top Chef one day. hehehe.)

Now this is the face of a happy and well fed man!!!

I am attempting to make a dinner tonight for Jeremy that is out of his "comfort zone"........we will see how he likes it. He loves Meatballs and mashed potatoes. Not usually together, but this recipe puts an interesting and yummy twist on some traditional items. Jeremy is picky in the sense that he doesn't like to try new items to eat. Hopefully I will be able to expand his tatse buds just a little bit. Here is the recipe I am using thanks to the amzing Rachel Ray.

So......as I posted previously.......we attended the Jack Johnson Concert on last Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine. The concert was amazing! Jeremy and I have waited so long to see him play, and he far surpassed all of our expectations. It was a very relaxing evening spend with great music, great seats, and great friends! Jeremy told me that I was leaving Boomer out and that I was posting too many blogs on Brady. So here is one just for him!
For those who don't know, Boomer is almost 3 years old!! We got him from a breeder our here in the desert. Our good friends, Ben and Sally Adams, had brought a puppy golden home a couple of months before our wedding. They decided to name him Jake, and it was love at first sight for Jeremy and I. Jeremy had grown up with Golden Retrievers his entire life, so he was especially smitten for the little guy. Ben and Sally told us the breeders had one more left.....a boy.....and he was the largest in the litter of seven puppies. Jake was the runt. So the next night we went to the breeders and brought home our pup. He had the biggest paws I had ever seen. And he was so clumsy, he had no cordination what so ever. He is the sweetest, most gentle dog. Boomer is your typical golden....he loves belly rubs, chasing a tennis ball, swimming, loves all other dogs and people too.

Brady was in destruction mode yesterday. Jeremy came home to a big mess!!! First.....Brady decided to eat a bunch of soil out of one of my indoor plants. Which in turn caused him to throw up on our carpet.......and leave a number two for Jeremy as well! (Sorry, I know that is way tooooooo much information.) Then when I got home, I found that he chewed a hole in our couch as well as in one of our bedroom pillows. What a little booger! Here are some photos of the mess as well as Brady in "time out".

A New Bed!

We got our new bed delivered last Friday night!!! It is way bigger then it looked in the furniture store, but we love it! Jeremy and I have been shopping for a headboard, footboard and rails for the past year and a half to accomodate our Cal-King Mattress. Everything we found was really expensive, (or maybe I am just to cheap). So, we headed to Mathis Brothers Furniture store in Indio. We have had a lot of luck there finding discounted furniture in their "As Is" section in the warehouse. There is a lot of floor model furniture, returns or slightly damaged items for sale. We came across this bed and couldn't believe the price........regularly $2200 marked down to $300. I asked the sales girl why it was so cheap, thinking the wood was cracked somewhere that we couldn't see. It turns out that the inventory department was supposed to order only 2 of these beds to have in stock..........they accidently ordered 12 instead!!! They have 10 of these beds to get rid of!! We went home and made some measurements, went back to the store, and made the purchase!!!!!! And, I am personally proud of it because it is the first piece of bedroom furniture I have owned that hasn't been a hand me down since I was 14!

For my birthday this year, my family and hubby are sending me to a culinary school where I am going to be taking 10 weeks of pastry/baking/dessert classes. It is at a local venue called Cooking with Class. I am extrememly excited! I absolutely love to cook......especially desserts! I actually don't start until October, but I can't wait to post about what I have learned and pictures of my creations. The chef who is going to be my instructor was also the designer of my wedding cake!!

It's been a long time since I have participated in this hobby of mine outside of just cooking for my family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Who knows......I just may have to apply to be on the next season of TOP CHEF!...........well that is taking this a little too far.......but I can dream can't I?

Big Bear Birthday

There is nothing like the fresh air at 6000 ft. elevation!! The beautiful pine trees and the clear blue skies!! It is absolutely heaven to me!! We celebrated my birthday a little early this year with a trip to the cabin in Big Bear. My Dad, Cheryl, Lindsay, Garrett, Baby Mia, Jeremy, Boomer, Brady and I had a very relaxing and fun weekend. Friday afternoon we spent in the back yard enjoying the much cooler weather then we are used to out in the desert. Jeremy threw the tennis ball for Boomer and Brady until they couldn't run anymore!! Then we all headed out to The Village for dinner at my favorite Mexican resteraunt El Jacalito and ended the night with some dancing and classic rock at Chad's Place (the local biker bar.....there are some interesting characters there!). My Dad even danced a little when the band played the Rolling Stones. Saturday morning, we took the dogs for a nice long hike. We came across a beautiful valley and meadow where there were quite a few ranch style cabins with horses, sheep and goats. Did I mention how much I love it there? We then headed to the classic car show in The Village that had more the 500 cars. My Dad and Jeremy were in heaven when they came across a couple Convertible Cameros and a Shelby Mustang Convertible that was just gorgeous. I was in heaven because they had an old fashioned ice cream parlor where I spoiled myself with the best root beer float I have ever had in my life! The night ended with a delicious dinner at Cheryl's family's cabin and a concert in Fawnskin at the Discover Center. The Discover Center is an outdoor amphitheater and had such a wonderful turn out from the community. I really appreciated the sense of a "small town" atmosphere. The band was "The Answer" who played classic rock and some oldies as well. They were very entertaining and great for all ages to enjoy. We all danced the night away. Sunday morning we packed up and headed to the lake so that Boomer could go for a swim!! That dog just absoultely loves the water! He was diving under the water and trying to bite the waves. Our little prince Brady went in the water but only up to his mid-legs......which is better then I thought he would do because he hates his bath's at home. I didn't get any pictures of them swimming, but it was entertaining to say the least. It was such a great way to spend my birthday.

THE VACATION BLUES

Do you ever have one of those days, where you would rather be doing anything, then be at work? Yep, I am having one of those days. I think its because we just got back from a very relaxing vacation to my Dad's house in Bullhead City, AZ. We spent three days on Lake Mojave water skiing, wakeboarding, floating, and just hanging out with the family. I wish I was there right now instead of stuck behind a desk staring at my computer. And I miss my Dad and Lindsay!! I guess this is what you call the vacation blues.

JOB UPDATES

We have some great news!! Jeremy has been offered a position with the City of Indio as a Housing Rehabilitation Specialist! It is a new program that the city is starting. Low to moderate income families can apply for government grants or loans to help fix up their homes. Jeremy will be running this department, helping the homeowners get approved, and also helping them make sure their homes are up to safety and building codes. This involves everything from mold & asbestos removal, foundation or stucco repairs, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, etc. He was chosen out of 71 applicants and went through 2 months of intense interviews. I am sooooo proud of him! This is his second week on the job and he absolutely loves it!! We are so grateful that he is going to be working within our community and helping others who are less fortunate. Thank you to everyone who knew he was going through this long process. Thank you for your prayers and your support!! In an economy where so many people are losing there jobs, we are so thankful this opportunity!!

We were rockin' & rollin'

A 5.4 Earthqauke hit southern california yesterday. It's epicenter was located somewhere between Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Yorba Linda & Pomona. We even felt it out here all the way in the desert! It has been a long time since we felt a big one!! The last one I can remember was the Landers Earthquake back in 1992, and that one was a 7.3!!! Jeremy's parents house was hit pretty good, but no damage. Cheryl, (my dad's girlfriend) lives on the border of Chino Hills and Phillips Ranch. She said all of her cabinets and drawers opened, along with a lot of items falling off shelves. Luckily nothing was broken and no one was hurt.

R.I.P. Randy Pausch - You will be greatly missed!

Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon Professor who became a phenomenon with his "Last Lecture" video, passed away this morning due to complications of pancreotic cancer. I first saw the "Lecture" in January of this year. It was during a time in which Jeremy and I were sturggling with some very personal matters. This man and his words truly touched both of us. And made us put some very important things into perspective about our lives. If you have just 10 minutes, please watch this. It is a shorter version of the speech he gave to his students. Get a box of tissues ready!

Thank you Randy for your wonderful heart, inspiration and positive attitude. You touched so many people and changed our lives. You will never be forgotten!!

This weekend I traveled to Peoria, AZ for one of my closest friend's baby shower. Jessica Case is prego with her second child, a little girl, Ava Lee, who is scheduled to come into the world on August 4th. Jessica's mom threw her a fabulous shower at a very fancy schmancy salon and spa. We all started the day with massages, manicures and pedicures! What a way for a girl to be pampered! And then onto a private room for the shower. The cupcakes were heavenly!! And we all made one page to put in a scrapbook for Baby Ava. Jessica and I had some girl time the rest of the weekend, ( her hubby was out of town and grandma took little Timmy for the night for us.) Jessica is a fantastic tour guide might I add!! She gave me the whole tour of downtown Scottsdale on Saturday night where we had dinner and walked around the boutiques and shops. On Sunday, I went to her community church where Jessica sings with the worship band, went to lunch at Westgate (shops next to the Cardinals Stadium), and finished shopping for stuff she needed at Babies R Us! It was a very eventful and relaxing weekend. Here are some pics from the event!

Eric and I have an amazing history together. We have known of each other since kindergarten, but didn't really start our friendship until we were in the 6th grade. It all started from the moment we gave him a ride home from school. He jumped out of my mom's minivan and yelled, "Thanks Linda!"......my mom's name is Julie. haha!! Who would have thought that moment would be the start to an amazing friendship? I could write a novel on every moment and memory we have been through together. I admire him and look up to him in so many ways.
So cheers, to my best friend, Eric!!! Happy 28th!!! You will always be older then me (hahaha). I am so lucky to have such a loyal, talented, caring and generous friend in my life for the past 17 years! I don't know what I would do without you. Desert Wild Life leads to Blonde Moment!

Out here in the desert, we see everything from coyotes, hawks, lizards, iguanas, rattlesnakes, frogs, bearded dragons, road runners, etc. The other morning I woke up at about 5 AM to let the dogs out to go potty. I noticed a little critter on the wall of our house that I had never seen before. He was up really high and pretty far from where I was standing, but he appeared to be some type of a desert reptile, possibly a horned toad or desert tortoises.....but I couldn't really tell....the sun was just beginning to rise and was still a little dark out. There is new home being built behind our house and all I could think is that this poor animal's habitat was disrupted and now he is stuck up on our block wall.

I ran to get my camera and took a few shots of him, but still couldn't quite tell what he was because I couldn't see his face. I proceeded to wake up Jeremy, "Honey, you have got to come see this!! There is a weird animal on our block wall."Jeremy was not happy to get out of bed, but like the good husband that he is, he gave into my curiosity. He walks to the back patio and without saying anything, he immediately turns around and heads back to the bedroom. I said, "Where are you going?" He said, "I am going back to sleep. That is a piece of concrete......not an animal....... and it has been up on the wall for the past two weeks. One of the construction guys must have put it up there." He continues to giggle as he climbs back into our bed. I was left in shock realizing:
1) What a blonde moment I had just had?
2) I need to get my eyes checked again.
3) I was very sad that my little discovery was nothing more then a stupid rock.

We are dog crazy!!!

It's not an unknown fact that my sister and I are huge animal lovers!!! My Dad used to get mad at us when we were kids because we would always bring home the strays. Lindsay and I would work hard posting signs around our neighborhoods and help return the dogs/cats to their owner's or find good homes for them. Well two days ago was the arrival of Lindsay's new puppy, Mia. It took a lot of convincing to Daddy Hayes, but he caved in and let her get one. I get to see her for the first time on Saturday and I can't wait. Most people think we are "crazy dog people".....but there is just something about coming home to a little one that gives unconditional love. Congrats Pooh Bear! I know Mia will bring you as much joy as Boomer and Brady do for us.

Tonight my Dad came out to play golf with Jeremy during the day. They had a great time since the weather is not quite as hot as it usually is this time of year. They played at the course in our community Terra Lago (formerly known as Landmark - where they used to play the Skins game at......a fun fact for all you golf lovers out there). Anyways, I made my world-famous spagetti and meatballs for dinner and we all watched the Laker game. It was very humorous watching my father and husband shout at the TV as if they were the coaches. My famliy has been huge fans of the team since the beginning of time. So we are happy to see them head to a Championship once again!!!

So we have been talking for a long time about getting Boomer a brother. And Jeremy finally said yes!!! So here he is. We found this little guy at the rescue out here. They believe he is a Golden Retriever mix ...(not quite sure what the other part is) and he is about 6-9 months old. They aren't quite sure. We have decided to name him BRADY. He loves to cuddle with mommy, tinkle on daddy and chew on big brother's ears.
